Alderney Flying Club is pulling out all the stops to make its annual fly-in over the weekend of 24-26 June one of the best ever.
Club chairman David Chiswell said: “We look forward to extending a very warm welcome to many private aviators from the UK, Continental Europe and our sister islands. And, to make sure these enthusiastic pilots and their crew will have an enjoyable and memorable weekend, we have produced an interesting and varied programme of social, sporting and cultural events.
“Our social events programme will kick off with a welcome drinks reception on Friday 24th and dinner with live music at ‘Bumps’. Our prize-giving gala dinner on Saturday night will be with live music by ‘The Mad Scatters, a very popular local band.”
There is no registration fee for the fly-in and landing fees will include 72 hours free parking. There’s also free transfer from the airport to their accommodation. Other attractions include VAT- and Duty-free shopping, and VAT- and tax-free avgas. The event is sponsored by Guernsey aviation maintenance company ASG.
A special programme of excursions includes boat trips around the island to discover Alderney’s spectacular sea birds, a guided tour exploring The Nunnery, one of Western Europe’s best preserved small Roman forts, and an entertaining train ride on the Channel Island’s only working railway followed by a guided tour of Mannez Lighthouse.
For golfers, there’s also a special 9-hole “Fly-In” competition on the Saturday. Alderney’s golf course is one of the most scenic and also most challenging courses in the Channel Islands. Golfing pilots and crew will face local players.
“Full details and regular updates of the 2016 Fly-In programme of events will be published on our website and on our Alderney Flying Club Facebook page”, said Mr Chiswell. “We recommend early booking. Alderney offers an excellent choice of hotels, guest houses and self-catering accommodation but it gets taken up quickly by wedding parties and other visiting groups.
