Nottingham City Airport has been granted permission to build a 500m paved extension of Runway 09/27.
According to Kember Loudon Williams, Chartered town planners and specialists in aviation related planning issues, the paved runway extension will move air traffic further away from nearby housing and the flight paths of aircraft using East Midlands Airport. The new 1000m-long runway will also allow the operation of new generation, more fuel efficient and quieter light business aircraft to operate safety from the airport, which is hoped will bring economic and commercial benefits to the area.
The team hopes that expansion at the former Tollerton Aerodrome, which originally opened in 1930, will greatly improve access to the Midlands.
A spokesman from Truman Aviation, operators of the airport, has confirmed that while approval has been granted, no work will be starting for some time due to some other issues which need to be smoothed out.
