A new single-seater designed to look and perform like a mini WWII Corsair fighter will be announced at AERO Friedrichshafen later this week. The Corsair is being developed by a new German company, JH Aircraft, a subsidiary of aerospace company JH Engineering, and is described as “120kg of high performance”.
The Corsair is projected to have a top speed of more than 200km/h (125mph) and load limits of +6/-4 g. It is being developed to meet German LTF-L, UK SSDR and American FAR Pt 103 regulations.
The company said, “The general layout – a low inverted gull wing – has been successfully used in several aircraft already. The Chance-Vought Corsair surely being one of the more famous aircraft with this concept. The main advantages are a low interference drag between wing and fuselage as well as an ideal landing gear position which allows as well a nearly perfect angle for take-off and landing.”
The airframe will be manufactured by carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) of aerospace grade. The fuselage will be manufactured as a carbon fibre spaceframe with an aramide-carbon safety cell around the pilot. Wings and empennage are full CFRP.
It will be powered by the new 3-cylinder Verner Scarlett radial with about 40hp. Max takeoff weight is 250kg, wingspan 7.5 metres.
