The flying school at Compton Abbas Airfield will be operated by Aero Legends, best known for running experience flights at Headcorn and North Weald. Flights in a Spitfire will also be available!
The new owner of Compton Abbas Airfield, movie director and owner of neighbouring Ashcombe Estates, Guy Ritchie, has agreed with Aero Legends for them to take over the school from 1 February 2023.
A statement from Guy Ritchie said, “We want to reassure all members of the Compton Abbas flying community that, as part of our continued commitment to maintaining aviation activities, instructors and students will have the opportunity to comtinue flying training at the airfield.
“We will ensure all activities continue to be conducted and managed to the high standards set by the Hughes Family during their tenure.”
The statement went on to say that there will be four weeks of renovations starting on 1 February which will reuquire closure of the cafe and members’ area.
“During this period we will ensure that resident aircraft are able to coninue to fly, however we will be closed to visiting aircraft.
“Our plans have been informed by feedback from the community and form part of our commitment to investing in the future of the airfield and those who use it.”
Aero Legends added, “Alongside flying training we are introducing a broad range of premium vintage flying experiences, including flights in the Spitfire. This expansion to Compton Abbas provides a convenient new location for customers based in the south-west.
“We remain committed to further developing both of our south-east and London venues.”
