South African aerobatics and former Red Bull Air Race series pilot, Glen Dell, 51, has tragically died from his injures sustained in an aircraft crash at the Secunda Airshow, Mpumalanga, South Africa.
Video footage shows Dell’s Red Bull Extra 300 in a downward spiral before crashing into the ground. The aeroplane was broken into pieces before it slowly caught fire. Dell was airlifted to nearby hospital before his family confirmed his death shortly after.
Dell served in the South African Air Force during the 1980s Bush Wars and had 20 years experience flying commercial aircraft with South African Airlines, with over 25,000 hours of flight time. Dell became the first South African to win the World Advanced Aerobatic Championships in 2004 and also raced in the Red Bull Air Race World Championships.
