A year ago at the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT), Aerovolt was a virtually unknown company on a small stand saying it was going to install chargers for electric aircraft at UK airfields.
For the 2024 RIAT, the Sussex based company is back with a much bigger stand, with seven installations completed over the past 12 months and operational – and another 17, yes 17, booked to be installed.
Snowdonia is the latest airfield where the chargers will be used for drone and eVTOL testing as well as electric aircraft.
Aerovolt will be presenting the ‘Electric Skyway’ at RIAT showcasing the future of electric aviation in the UK, with multiple electric aircraft on display alongside the expanding Aerovolt charging network.
One of the electric aircraft is the new Axe eVTOL from UK company Skyfly Technologies, making its public debut.
Aerovolt partnered with Skyfly early in 2024 and will be working alongside them in flight testing to integrate the Axe on the charging network. One aim is to performing the UK’s first airfield to airfield eVTOL flight later this year.
Other firms on the stand include electric propulsion specialist Flux Aviation, which is developing electric motors and batteries to power electric aircraft. Flux will be showcasing its first fully converted CFM Shadow aircraft to electric, demonstrating the viability of converting existing aircraft and giving them a new lease of life.
Aerovolt will also be demonstrating ‘Squadron’, a new multi site aircraft booking and management platform. Squadron manages aircraft booking, training, payments, flight logging and charging online with one account.
