+VIDEO It’s Air Ambulance Week 2024! Air ambulance charities across the UK will be delivering the message: ‘Today’s Supporter, Tomorrow’s Lifesaver’.
Air Ambulance Week, 9-15 September 2024, is the only week in the year dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the lifesaving work of air ambulance charities. It’s organised by Air Ambulances UK.
The national awareness week calls on people all over the UK to help support their local air ambulance charity. Throughout Air Ambulance Week, the stories of those whose lives have been helped by critical care medics will be shared.

One example is that of Zac. His mother recalled that Zac began to feel unwell and soon experienced a seizure, losing consciousness. The situation was extremely serious.
Doctors quickly provided oxygen and administered a drug to halt the seizures. The swift action and the intervention of the air ambulance were crucial. Without the air ambulance, Zac would not have survived.
It seems incredible that air ambulances are funded as a charity, rather than a public service, and that’s why the air ambulance charities need support to continue.
There are 37 air ambulance helicopters in the UK operated by 21 air ambulance charities, collectively making more than 44,000 lifesaving missions each year across the UK. Each mission costs on average around £4,110 and is funded almost entirely by the generosity of local communities.
