The distinctive twin-engine AirCam from US company Lockwood Aircraft is being substantially upgraded for 2019, including an optional third seat.
The latest model, known as Gen-3, is on display at the annual Sun ‘n Fun fly-in and expo at Lakeland, Florida which opens today, 2 April.
“The new Gen-3 model airframes will have the option of incorporating a third seat located behind the second seat and a 220 lb gross weight increase from the current 1,680 lb max gross weight to 1,900 lb,” said company boss Phil Lockwood. “The new jump seat will be quickly removable to convert between cargo and and third passenger.”
To provide the additional single engine performance needed for the higher gross weights, Lockwood Aircraft is offering a new, upgraded 115hp Rotax 912 power package.
Customers opting for the standard 100hp 912 engines will be limited to the original 1,680 lb maximum gross weight, said Lockwood.
“The additional 15hp per engine is achieved though an increase in displacement with no increase in weight.”
Other improvements include stronger landing gear to cope with greater landing and take off weights – stronger gear legs, beefed-up fuselage gearbox and upgraded Beringer wheels and brakes.
The AirCam was developed as a photography platform, with two engines to allow it to operate safely at low altitude over hospitable terrain.
