A fully funded scholarship for a dual CAA and EASA commercial pilot’s licence is on offer from Exeter-based flight school Aviation South West.
“This course will take you from zero experience to Commercial Pilot and will include the UK CAA licence as well as an EASA licence,” said Anne McLaird, director at Aviation South West.
“You will study at our school based at Exeter International Airport and then complete your studies at our school in Malta where you will achieve your EASA licence.
“We are aware that the cost of flight training prevents many young people from entering this profession, so are offering this once in a lifetime opportunity to enable them to achieve their dreams.”

Aviation South West has also recently moved into new premises at its Devonshire headquarters, relocating from the portacabins to the airport’s main building.
Th ATO has taken over two suites comprising four student briefing rooms equipped with modern teaching aids, a large student planning area and lounge, meeting rooms, staff offices and a well-equipped kitchen/dining area. The premises also has facilities for visiting pilots, with ASW providing pilot briefing services on behalf of Exeter ATC.
The ATO, which has been at Exeter since 1999, was purchased by the McLaird family in 2015 and specialises in bespoke training programmes for both private and commercial pilots. The school holds both UK CAA and EASA training approvals, enabling it to deliver training programmes for individuals wishing to gain either UK or EU pilot licences, or both. In 2021 the school opened a satellite base in Malta, providing an EU location for its EASA training programmes.
