BMAA approves updated Ikarus C42C

The Comco Ikarus C42C is the latest Light Sport Microlight (LSM) to gain approval by the British Microlight Aircraft Association (BMAA).

The C42C has a max takeoff weight of 560kg, allowing a typical payload of 275kg, enabling it to carry two crew at 100kg each, full fuel and have a further 30kg for baggage.

It is a variant of the already popular C42. The ‘C’ has been available in Germany for around six years, and has already been through structural and flight testing for the UK market and cleared to the 450/472.5kg ‘old’ microlight limit.

Ikarus Comco says the C42C is a major evolution of the C42 type. The C model’s new features include a revised aerofoil profile, clipped wings, completely new roof and door structure, flap infill panels, aerodynamic spades, servo tab on the elevator and many other aerodynamic enhancements.

The C has increased use of carbon fibre throughout to keep the aircraft’s empty weight to a minimum, and comes with a choice of an 80 or 100hp Rotax engine.

The Ikarus range is available through the UK dealer, The Light Aircraft Company, based at Little Snoring Airfield, Norfolk.
