There’s a new block on the Cub, and it’s called the CC363i F/P. Unless you’re a numbers/naming geek, the important bits are that the new engine offers 5% more power for a tiny 7lb increase in weight.
The fixed pitch engine/prop combination is fuel injected and a lower compression ration than previous engines, meaning that it should be more tolerant to alternative fuels such as mogas. The engine is in the final phases of flight test, and should be available from October.
If you are a bit of numbers/naming geek and you’re feeling left out, the original CarbonCub came to market with the CC340, a lightweight derivative of the Lycoming 0-320.
The CC363i F/P is a collaboration between CubCrafters and Lycoming and is offered exclusively on the Carbon Cub series of aircraft namely the EX-2, EX-3, FX-2 and FX-3. The original LSA carbon Cub remains powered by the ASTM approved CC340 (and that’s it, I’m now out of random letters and numbers).
