Textron Aviation has announced the return of the Cessna Turbo Skylane T182T to its range of piston powered aircraft.
The turbo 182 was dropped from the company’s line-up in 2013 when Cessna had expected to introduce the 182 JT-A, powered by an SMA diesel engine. However, problems with that aircraft during certification testing led to the plan being dropped.
The new Cessna Turbo Skylane T182T is powered by a Lycoming TIO-540 engine and is equipped with a Hartzell Engine Technologies (HET) turbocharger, providing the aircraft with 235hp up to 20,000 feet. The additional power is useful for pilots flying over mountainous regions or for cruising at higher altitudes.
Ron Draper, president & CEO, Textron Aviation, said, “The Cessna Skylane is a remarkably instinctive aircraft to operate, and the turbocharged engine provides even greater performance that enhances the overall flying experience.”
Cessna has also updated the aircraft with the latest Garmin G1000 NXi avionics suite, a heated propeller, and an in-cabin oxygen system.
However, there’s no deice system fitted as standard though there is an aftermarket TKS system available. Unless Cessna further develops the aircraft, it will not be certified for Flight Into Known Icing (FIKI).
Cessna says the Turbo Skylane T182T has a seating capacity for four and an estimated range of 971 miles. The certified ceiling is 20,000ft and maximum speed is 165kt.
