Chinese car maker Xpeng is to put into production its Land Aircraft Carrier flying car. It will cost $280,000 (£213,000) per vehicle and be available in 2026.

Xpeng’s flying car project is a separate company called AeroHT. The AeroHT Land Aircraft Carrier consists of two parts: the Ground Module and the Air Module.

The idea is that the Ground Module, a six-wheel drive electric vehicle with a internal combustion engine as a range extender, carries the Air Module and recharges it while on the move.

The pair then separate (watch the animation video), the Air Module unfolds six rotors with electric motors, and takes off with a human pilot at the controls. There’s room for one passenger.

Confirmation of Xpeng’s plans came yesterday (3 September 2024) in a livestreamed event in China from XPeng AeroHT founder and President Zhao Deli. Orders will be taken from the end of 2024 with a limited production run (for. acar maker) of 10,000 units.

A new factory for AeroHT is to be built in Guangzhou, China, starting later this autumn and ready for next July. First public flight of the Land Aircraft Carrier are expected at the Zhuhai Airshow which opens from 12-17 November 2024.

AeroHT has also previous shown a supercar version of its flying car, the X2, but it’s been reported the maker is having difficulties getting the flying rotors to fold into the more compact shape.
