Barton is back! The popular grass airfield west of Manchester has rebranded this week from City Airport to Manchester Barton Aerodrome.
“It’s sixteen years since the Barton Aerodrome branding disappeared, so it’s exciting to launch our new corporate identity, Manchester Barton Aerodrome! Follow us on our new journey…” said a statement from the airfield.
The operator has also posted this video about the rebranding:

Barton Airport officially opened in January 1930 with a large hangar to house the most advanced passenger aircraft of the day, the Imperial Airways Argosy.
The airport became the first municipal airfield in the UK to be licensed by the Air Ministry and the well-known Control Tower was completed shortly after. Both the Control Tower and original hangar are now Grade II listed buildings and remain in operation.
Today, the airport is home to multiple fixed and rotary operators, as well as a thriving General Aviation community – including Lancashire Aero Club which returned in 2022.
