On one side of the city of Coventry there’s a fully-fledged airport facing closure while on the other side a new vertiport for air taxis and drones has started construction.

British start-up Urban-Air Port (UAP) has begun building Air One which will be officially opened at an event on 25 April, in Coventry city centre.

Urban-Air Port’s founder & executive chairman, Ricky Sandhu, said, “We are absolutely thrilled to get Urban-Air Port’s Air One on site – this marks a unique and transformative moment where the UK positions itself as the world’s leading player in advanced air mobility.

“Our technology will enable Coventry and other cities around the country and the world to decarbonise by enabling safe adoption of cleaner mobility solutions.”

The Air One site is located in an area home to approx 400,000 people living and working, and close to Coventry train station and other transport links.

As part of the launch, UAP is working with the West Midlands Police Drone Team to provide a public demonstration of unmanned aerial vehicles.

From 28 April to 15 May 2022, Air One will be open to the public, with tours provided by the Urban-Air Port team.
