+VIDEO Matthias Dolderer of Germany is the 2016 Red Bull Air Race World Champion. He won the penultimate race of the series at Indianapolis Raceway, USA with Britain’s Nigel Lamb second and Canada’s Pete McLeod third.
The only racer who could have beaten Dolderer, Australia’s Matt Hall, clipped a pylon during his final run. All Dolderer had to do was put in a clean time.
It was a packed event with a crowd of 62,000 for the first time the event has been held at the Raceway. The final race of the 2016 season is next weekend in Las vegas.
“It’s amazing. We worked really hard for it and the dream came true,” said Dolderer. “There are so many emotions it’s hard to keep them under control. Thanks to my family, the fans, everyone here in Indianapolis, and my team – I have the best team in the world.”
