+VIDEO A 100% electric power Bristell B23 aircraft is currently on a flight from Sion, Switzerland to Friedrichshafen, Germany to go on display at next week’s AERO, Europe’s top General Aviation show.
The aircraft is the Bristell B23 Energic with a complete electric power system developed by H55, the Swiss company set up by the former Solar Impulse team. H55’s aim is to create a certified electric propulsion and battery management systems tailored to a diverse range of aircraft.
The aircraft’s flight across Switzerland and Germany has a number of stopovers where the H55 team plans to show Energic to flight schools, aero clubs and local media.
The appearance at AERO follows recent milestones in the powertrain’s process towards certification with the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
EASA has agreed to H55’s Compliance Check list (CCL) for its electric motor and motor controller, demonstrating the safety and performance of the entire electric propulsion management system (EPS). Previously, EASA had approved H55’s battery packs and energy management systems.
“These two significant achievements position H55 as the first company to satisfy all certification requirements for the entire EPS which includes the motor, motor controller, battery modules and energy management systems,” said H55.
“These certifications are tailored for general aviation and commuter applications with the first set of systems being integrated into certified flight trainers which will soon enter the market.”
H55 said it is also actively engaged with the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) in the United States and Transport Canada in Canada.
