An electric powered Sling TSi four-seater – the e-Sling – has made a successful first flight in Switzerland.
The Cellsius project was created, developed and assembled by 20 students over two years at the Innovation Park in Dübendorf as part of their studies.
Test pilot for the flight was Damian Hischier who said, “I am happy to announce that I got to perform the first flight of the all-electric aircraft e-Sling on September the 19th, 2022. The flight was successful and went without any incidents.
“It marked my 16th first flight for all aircraft types and the third first flight for electric aircraft I have performed. The e-Sling’s flight was definitely one of the most rewarding first flights I have ever made because of the exceptional teamwork and spirit of the students.”
The e-Sling had a 104kW electric motor running on batteries and is said to have a 200km range. The next phase of the project will look to change this for a hydrogen fuel cell, Project H2, which is already running on the test bench.
This #featurefriday we have a very special aircraft to highlight:
The e-Sling
It’s based on a #Sling TSi, which has been adapted for electrification. Equipped with a modular battery system, it will offer a range of 200 km for 4 people.
