Farway Common Airfield in Devon is to reopen under new owners.
The airfield, located 9nm east of Exeter, closed last year after the death of owner and operator Terry Case.
The new owner is James Hortop, who flies a Navion. James told FLYER‘s Ian Seager, “Somehow we managed to buy an airfield! We have some big plans. First will be a housewarming fly-in in May/June time.”
UPDATE: James has confirmed three fly-ins for 2022.
And so the work begins! Checking out the North/South runway which is in great shape.. pic.twitter.com/ga3qn9SyZa

Please let me know the opening date..
This is excellent news!
It’s rare these days to hear of airfields re opening or even starting up!
A good location and I understand James has high aspirations for this airfield.
Beating off considerable competition (that being not aviation Orientated) he has provided us (GA) with an airfield that provides the region (South, SW South Wales and central Southern England and the SE with an additional great day/overnight visit. Well done James!
Got to go there! What a breath of really good news in an age of recent airfield closures.
Just need Plymouth to re-open now!
