AERO 2022 was my first visit to what is, apparently, the next best GA event to Oshkosh.
31 December 2022
It was great to see so much under one roof, from brand-new Cirrus to the turbine VL-3 and all the latest avionics and pilot equipment. The scale of it was what struck me the most. Having only attended the LAA Rally, Aero Expo and other UK events, AERO is an absolute monster of a show in comparison.
We also got to meet some great people. The team at Blackshape we’re exceptionally friendly and allowed me to sit inside their Gabriel aircraft after I picked it for that week’s fantasy hangar. They’d even just sold the aircraft to someone who visited the stand, so I was extra grateful.
If you get bored after a couple of laps around the stalls at a UK show, you’ll find yourself leaving AERO after a couple of days and still not be able to fully take in everything. It’s worth the journey to Germany, not least for the beer and sausages in the evening! Eight months on I can still see the jump in steps on my iPhone health app. The FLYER team certainly earned those sausages!
