Junkers A60 and A50
FLYER's Best of 2022

Junkers… everything old is new again

Junkers Aircraft think that modern aircraft can still look vintage cool, and surprised the AERO 2022 audience with their stunning A50 and A60 600kg ultralights.

The AERO General Aviation show held at Friedrichshafen, in Germany in early spring is always good for surprises, and the show’s post covid-return in 2022 proved to be no exception.

The FLYER team had been expecting to see the A50 Junior 600kg microlight from Junkers Aircraft, following its launch, many months earlier. But what did catch us unawares were two surprise reveals. The first was the A60, a two-seater with side-by-side seating and retractable undercarriage which Junkers says will go into production next year. Like its stablemate, the A50, the A60 meets the criteria for the 600kg microlight class and is powered by a 100hp Rotax 912iS engine. Junkers tempted buyers even more with the promise it will be offered with open cockpit and enclosed cockpit options.

The 1930s inspired A50 received its approval from the German aviation authority, the DULV, as a 600kg microlight later in the year, and the first customer deliveries began in autumn, the initial order batch of 29 aircraft having all been sold – priced at €179,000.

As for the A60, we can’t wait to see the finished product show up at AERO 2023!

And thanks to our friends at Flieger Magazine in Germany, we got an insight into what the new A50 is like to fly
