Final flight from Penzance Heliport

The last helicopter service flight will be made from Penzance Heliport on 31 October, after 48 years of helicopter services to the Scilly Isles.
It brings to a close nearly 50 years of travel between Penzance and the islands. British International Helicopters blames rising costs and falling passenger numbers. The end of the service, started in 1964, will mean the closure of Penzance Heliport in Cornwall and the loss of 50 jobs.
Sikorsky S-61 Helicopters have lifted holiday makers, residents and freight for nearly five decades. Flights to the islands will continue from Lands End Airport with fixed wing aircraft operated by SkyBus.
The last flight will leave Penzance heliport at 5:30 this evening. British International Helicopters (BIH) is selling its land to Sainsbury’s.
