Antarctic flying with Vicky Auld

We are getting the 2025 Livestreams underway this week with the intrepid Vicky Auld – Deputy Chief Pilot for the British Antarctic Survey!

Vicky started her 27-year career with the BAS as a wintering meteorologist at the Halley Research Station, before later transitioning to become a pilot on the Twin Otter. Her varied flying duties now range from scenic flights to atmospheric measurements and wildlife surveys.

Vicky was awarded a Polar Medal in 2007, and a Second Clasp Polar Medal in the 2024 New Year’s Honours List, for her contribution to improving our understanding of Antarctica and enduring its harsh conditions. We’ll remember that next time we complain about the UK weather!
