Flying Car certified to fly in Slovakia

The Klein AirCar has been given a Certificate of Airworthiness by the Slovak Transport Authority.

The boss of the Transport Authority, René Molnár, said, “[The] Transportation Authority carefully monitored all stages of unique AirCar development from its start in 2017.

“AirCar combines top innovations with safety measures in line with EASA standards. It defines a new category of a sports car and a reliable aircraft. Its certification was both a challenging and fascinating task.”

The CofA, which is effective in Slovakia only, follows 70 hours of flight tests including more than 200 takeoffs and landings.

The two-seat AirCar currently has a 1.6-litre 140hp BMW engine and a max weight of 1,000kg. However, Klein is working with ADEPT Automotive on a new, 300hp engine. That model will be put forward for EASA type certification in about 12 months, said the company.

“AirCar certification opens the door for mass production of very efficient flying cars. It is official and the final confirmation of our ability to change mid-distance travel forever,” said Professor Stefan Klein, the inventor, leader of the development team and the test pilot.
