Flylight’s SSDR-compliant light trike DragonChaser flew on skis last week, possibly one of the few microlights to do so in all of the snow.
Ben Ashman, Director at Flylight, explained, “It really does show the advantages of single seat deregulation and the capability that it affords these little aeroplanes.”
He continued, “Although we do not expect to sell lots of the ski kits, we can manufacture them to fit onto almost any SSDR flexwing trike and of course, all of the Flylight range. We only supply the metal parts, the skis have to be obtained by the customer. Most ski centres and dry slope operators will happily give or sell at very low prices, their old rental skis (snow blades or children’s snow boards are best). For a small outlay, you can have the capability to fly when all others are grounded.”
As far as the DragonChaser with skis (DragonChaserSki) performs, Ben says, “It’s wonderful, a pocket rocket in the snow. So far, she is behaving impeccably and proving to be one of the most versatile aircraft in the Flylight fleet. No mater what the country’s economy is doing, we are having a ball. Any interested parties are more than welcome to come along for a demonstration or contact Flylight for more information.”
