The fight for a new airfield at Little Mongeham in Kent, near Deal, is back on. An appeal has been lodged against last October’s refusal of planning permission.
The refusal by Dover District Council was on the grounds of noise creation after a torrid campaign by some local groups.
John Gilder, vice-chair of the General Aviation Awareness Council, confirmed the appeal earlier today (18 January 2023).
John said, “In many senses it is a first for the GA sector as it comes from within the industry (guided by the GAAC) rather than through political machinations or personal whim.
“Briefly, the initial outline proposal was for a 750 metre grass runway together with a control building and basic facilities and a glamping site. It is a predominantly rural area but close to Deal town centre (bikes available!) and a number of country pubs.
“This project came to us in September 2020 and we must thank Ann [Bartaby – Ed] for patiently steering it though two years of the most convoluted planning approval process we have ever come across.”
GAAC is asking for public support for the appeal which being made under Section 78 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.

How can we help?
I left supportive comments with the council at the initial stage.
