Garmin is launching two new products at next week’s Sun ‘n Fun airshow being staged in Florida, USA. They are: the G5 electronic flight instrument with a 3.5in screen, which can be used as a primary flight instrument or as a backup, and the GMA 245 audio panel. Both products are aimed at the experimental or Permit aircraft market.
The $1,199 G5 has a 3.5-inch sunlight readable liquid crystal display (LCD) with built-in GPS. It displays attitude, ground track, altitude, airspeed, groundspeed, vertical speed, slip/skid, course (lateral) deviation, vertical deviation and incorporates a dedicated HSI page. More capabilities are available when integrated with G3X glass flight displays.
Additionally, the G5 fight instrument can serve as part of a standalone autopilot when paired with Garmin’s compatible autopilot mode controllers and autopilot servos.
“Team X has taken the traditional back-up display further with the G5 by offering great readability and redundancy, which can optionally integrate with a wide array of existing avionics configurations or be used as a standalone display,” said Carl Wolf, Garmin’s vice president of aviation sales and marketing.
“With the G5 flight instrument, installation is quick and easy and the integration potential is limitless, which is key when it comes to designing an aircraft panel. We╒re excited to bring this innovative and safety promoting product to the experimental and light sport aircraft market and look forward to seeing how our customers uniquely incorporate it into the panels of their aircraft.”
The new audio panel is available as the GMA 245 for panel mount and the GMA 245R is a remote mount. Both integrate with Garmin’s G3X Touch EFIS.
Both GMA 245s are Bluetooth-enabled audio panels and include features such as advanced auto squelch, music bass boost, advanced equaliser settings, 3D Audio processing, wireless integration with the VIRB XE action camera and more.
Garmin says the GMA 245/245R is rack and pin-compatible with the GMA 240, GMA 340 and third-party audio panels for experimental aircraft. The GMA 245R is expected to be available in April 2016 starting at $1,199, while the GMA 245 is expected to be available in May 2016 starting at $1,325.
