Garmin has introduced two new panel-mount radios that are ‘affordable’. They are: the GTR 205 comms-only priced at $2,695 and GNC 215 nav/comm at $5,295. They’re designed for use in both fixed-wing and rotary aircraft.
Both radios have a height of 1.3in which is the same as previous generation SL30 and SL40 radios, enabling easier upgrades. Dimensions are: H 34.3mm x W 158.8mm x D 262.1mm, weight 1kg (1.4kg with mounting rack).
Both have sunlight-readable colour LCD displays, which indicate the currently tuned active and standby frequencies, as well as the station ID. They can be set to Europe’s 8.33 kHz spacing (with 2280 channels) or the US 25 kHz spacing (760 channels) by the pilot.
The GTR 205 COMM radio allows pilots to monitor a standby frequency while tuned to the active frequency for various tasks such as listening to ATIS transmissions.
The GNC 215 NAV/COMM radio offers all the same comms features as the GTR 205, while also adding full VHF navigation capabilities, including VOR/ILS with localiser and glideslope.
Both radios have received FAA Technical Standard Order (TSO) authorisation and will be available in March through the Garmin Authorised Dealer network.
Carl Wolf, Garmin Vice President of Aviation Sales and Marketing, said, “The GTR 205 and GNC 215 products show Garmin’s commitment to offering attractive and affordable ground-based navigation and communication options while continuing to provide world-class, modern capabilities.
“We are excited to offer these new solutions for our general aviation customers as we keep our entire product line fresh.”
