Two gull wing cargo doors hinged down the middle of the aircraft’s fuselage? How is that possible?
According to kitplane supplier Bushliner it’s only possible because of the strength of the ‘Razorback’ fuselage of its Cyclone 1850. They say it’s designed to withstand five times the landing weight of the aircraft.
The Cyclone 1850 is the latest development from the company, based at Green Valley Airfield, Washington State, north of Seattle. First deliveries are due to begin in 2025. The aircraft is a development of the Cessna 185 Skywagon, itself a legend among backcountry pilots.
The Cyclone 1850 has higher gross weight than the 185, four inches wider cockpit, those cargo doors! eight feet of flat floor for loading and/or seating, two feet longer wingspan, longer flaps and larger fuel tank.
The engine is a 315hp Lycoming IO-580 with electronic ignition, driving an MT propeller. Avionics are Garmin G3X. Climb rate is said to be 1500ft/min, max range 1,000nm and cruise speed 150kias.
Pricing is $300,000-$600,000 for quick build kits depending on selected options, $800,000 and up for factory built aircraft.
