Halfpenny Green to undergo major facility upgrade

Runway threshold

Halfpenny Green Airfield has announced plans for significant infrastructure upgrades, aimed at improving safety, capacity, and operational efficiency. The project includes key developments across the airfield, with work set to begin following a temporary closure.

Planned Upgrades

Runway Resurfacing
All three runways will be fully relaid to improve surface quality and safety for aircraft operations.

Parking Apron Expansion
The parking apron will nearly double in size to 55,000 square feet, providing additional capacity to accommodate more aircraft and streamline ground operations.

Fuel Bay Overhaul
The fuel bay will be modernised with a new concrete surface and updated pumps, improving refuelling efficiency for visiting and resident aircraft.

LED Lighting Installation
The existing lighting system will be replaced with modern LED lights, enhancing visibility for night operations and reducing energy consumption.

Temporary Closure
The upgrades will require a temporary closure of the airfield to allow work to be carried out safely and efficiently. While the closure may cause some disruption, the improvements are expected to deliver long-term benefits for users of the airfield.

An airfield spokesman told FLYER, “These improvements are necessary to ensure the airfield remains safe, functional, and able to meet the needs of the General Aviation community into the future.”

Further details, including the exact start date and reopening plans, will be announced in the coming weeks.
