Haverfordwest Airport to go private after council loss

Haverfordwest Airport is on the verge of being leased to a private contractor by the owner, Pembrokeshire County Council, following a deficit of £119,000 last year.

The new contractor has not been named yet because of ‘reasonably complex’ negotiations still taking place, according to Councillor Paul Miller, deputy leader of the council.

Cllr Miller also said existing tenants had been involved throughout the process, and once the new overall lease was in place tenants would be protected through legislation.

We understand the lease would be for an initial 10-year term, with a requirement to obtain/keep a CAA Cat II licence. The aim is to make the airport ‘cost-neutral’ to the council while ensuring it remains operational.

“Any lease will require that the airport be maintained to an acceptable standard and that a CAA Cat II licence is maintained. If these terms of the agreement are breached, then the facility will return to the council,” said a council statement.
