Hurricane SSDR heads Light Aircraft Design Conference line-up

Hurricane 315 SSDR

On The Lighter Side is the title of the Light Aircraft Design Conference being staged by the Royal Aeronautical Society on 19 November in London.

“Over the last few decades there has been a remarkable resurgence of grassroots aviation driven by science and technology – notably materials and electronics, and the sheer fascination and joy of flight,” says the RAeS.

“It won’t stop here – and our aim is to give a taste of current developments and where we are all going. Wingsuits, flying bicycles, footlaunch, design and UAV proof of concept, ultralight aircraft – and beyond: come and be inspired!”

Among the speakers is Martyn Ingleton, Chief Mechanical Engineer at BAE Systems who will be talking about his personal project, the Hurricane 315 SSDR. Yes, a scaled-down Hurricane WWII fighter as an SSDR.

  • Dr Bill Brooks, Technical Director of P&M Aviation talking about his FlyCycle
  • Ian Currer, Technical Officer of the British Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association talking about foot-launched flying
  • Mike Whitaker, designer, talking about his aircraft designs
  • David Stanbridge, MD of Swift Technology Group talking about using X-Plane in aircraft design
  • Norman Wijker, Head of Research, Samad Aerospace, on developing a unique VTOL hybrid electric biz jet.
