If you’ve seen the spectacular videos of David Mayman flying the JetPack around London, Monaco and New York and really, really want one – get in line! The latest version of the Jetpack, the JB-10, is to go on sale next year.
The price will be a cool $250,000, depending on options and training. Deliveries will start in mid-2017 but – of course there’s a But – buyers will have to meet JetPack Aviation’s qualifications.
The reason for qualification is simple – the JetPack is not simple to fly. David Mayman has spent years making it look easy but it isn’t. Note how still he keeps his body when flying, for instance. An elbow or foot out of place and you can change direction in an instant.
Currently, the JB-10 can fly up to 1,000ft, at a speed of 60mph and has an endurance of 5-10 minutes. Plenty enough for it to hurt if you get it wrong, so it’s not going to be for everyone at first.
JetPack Aviation’s qualifying early adopters will have to be government agencies or, the good news, current fixed-wing or helicopter pilots. You’ll also have to go through JetPack Aviation’s training course.
JPA is setting up a new training facility near Los Angeles, California and is launching the facility with a competition:Own the sky! Enter to win a JetPack flight in LA, dinner with JetPack Aviation founders David Mayman and Nelson Tyler, and $1000 in travel vouchers to get you to Los Angeles! There are 6 ways to enter, including on Facebook and Twitter: https://gleam.io/VW3mx/jetpack-aviation
