Kemble airfield has paved the way for a wider range of aviation activity after gettings its licence from the CAA.
The Gloucestershire airfield, which celebrated by raffling the first licensed takeoffs and landings between two of the flying schools on the sites, will now be able to host business flights, including LearJets, as well as running its already well established GA and microlight side.
“This is great news for the airfield, and marks the culmination of two years’ hard work,” an operations spokesman said. “It is important to point out that the volume of air traffic will not significantly increase, but we will be able to widen the diversity of our usage.”
A large number of improvements have been introduced on the airfield, including the erection of a two-metre high chain-link security fence, new airfield signage and new runway and taxiways markings. A new high quality restaurant, AV8, also opened recently.
Further improvements are scheduled to take place in the control tower building, including the opening of a pilots’ shop in the new year.
