A new documentary film telling the story of the Lancaster bomber is set for release on 27 May.
Lancaster is the story of the WWII icon told through the words of the last surviving crew members, re-mastered archive and aerial footage of the last working Lancasters in flight.
At the heart of the film are the recollections of the veterans. When interviewed, the youngest was 95 years old, the oldest over 100. Their recall of events from over 75 years ago is nothing short of incredible and is the last time they will ever share their stories.
The ‘Lanc’ was responsible for some of the most famous missions in WWII from the Dambuster raids to the controversial bombing of Dresden.
A total of 55,000 airmen, half of all Bomber Command’s aircrew, died in the skies over Nazi occupied Europe, with an average age of just 22.
Directed by David Fairhead and Ant Palmer, Lancaster features aerial footage from one of the world’s top aviation photographers, John Dibbs, an original score from composer Chris Roe performed by the Central Band of the RAF, and was produced by Gareth Dodds, Trevor Beatie, Jeremy Chatterton, Steve Milne, Keith Haviland, David Fairhead and Ant Palmer.
