Y Viva España! Leading Edge Aviation will start training student pilots on its integrated frozen Airline Transport Pilot Licence (fATPL) course in Spain later this year.
The expansion of LEA’s LEAP programme was announced at Pilot Careers Live Spain on 16 March 2024, held in Madrid.
The first course starts on 26 September 2024 at LEA’s new facilities at Alhama Aerodromo, Murcia in southern Spain. The ATO already operates foundation flight training at the airfield.
The course offers both single (EASA or UK CAA) and dual (EASA and UK CAA) licence options. A further intake of students will arrive in January 2025.
Andy McFarlane, CEO of Oxford-based Leading Edge Aviation, said, “Expanding our top-tier training programme to the Alhama campus in Spain reflects our dedication to making high-quality pilot training more accessible.
“We’re committed to preparing the next generation of pilots with the comprehensive skills, knowledge, and mindset needed to thrive and excel in the rapidly evolving aviation industry.
“The excellent flying conditions in Alhama, combined with our expertly designed curriculum enable our students to become successful pilots and future Captains”.
The Alhama campus includes exclusive airport use, newly-built ground school and flight training in Robin DR400, Diamond DA40 and DA42 aircraft, DA42 simulators, and innovative virtual reality tech. The location is said to offer optimal flying conditions and extensive leisure amenities.
Alhama Aerodromo has a full-length parallel taxiway, a modern operations and planning building with crew facilities, and a substantial apron and hangar that will house LEA’s growing fleet of aircraft. An on-site engineering service supports the operation.
Students have accommodation minutes away in two-bedroom air-conditioned self-catering apartments, with 24-hour onsite security and a range of impressive social and leisure facilities.
