Airlines are serious about decarbonising air travel. Passengers expect it and climate scientists have made it clear change is essential.

What’s not so obvious is how to achieve decarbonisation, hence the various projects underway.

One such project is from Heart Aerospace, a Swedish company that’s developing a hybrid-electric airliner. They’ve teamed up with Loganair, the UK-based regional airline.

Loganair and Heart Aerospace will look at potential routes for the hybrid-electric aircraft within Loganair’s Scottish and UK network. Loganair, headquartered at Glasgow Airport, primarily operates domestic flights within the UK.

The ES-30 will have a fully electric zero emissions range of 200 kilometres, an extended hybrid range of 400 kilometres with 30 passengers and flexibility to fly up to 800 kilometres with 25 passengers, all including typical airline reserves.
