Micco is an aircraft manufacturer with an interesting history, the latest twist of which is that it has been acquired by the MICCO Aircraft Company Inc (it was formerly Micco Aircraft Inc). The new company is headed by James E. Billie, previously known as Chief Jim Billie when he was chairman of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. The aerobatic MICCO SP26 aircraft had previously been owned by the Seminole Tribe, and had received type certification under Chief Jim’s guidance.
Chief Jim (as he’s apparently still known) felt that it was a mistake for the tribe to have divested itself of the aircraft, and so has bought the rights and Type Certificate for the aircraft, set up the new company and has moved production to Bartlesville in Oklahoma (although he hopes many native Americans who had been working on the project will move there, too) and has added a Tecnam dealership and flight school to the business’s portfolio.
The company hopes to get the SP26 into production for the second quarter of 2006.
