Roptax 915 iS AERO 2017

The Rotax 135hp 915 iS is on course to complete EASA certification in the second half of 2017, with production and deliveries starting in the third quarter of the year, insisted the Austrian company at AERO today.

The engine has completed 250 flight hours in two aircraft, and 10,000 hours in bench-testing. Final calibrations are underway. Several aircraft manufacturers have had test units, including Tecnam, to fit into their aircraft. More than 40 aircraft are intending to use the engine.

It’s the most powerful version of the 4-cyl Rotax engine yet. It’s based on the 912 engine and fitted with electronic fuel injection, an intercooler and turbocharger. It can burn avgas, 95-octane mogas or a mix of ethanol to a maximum of 10%.

Max takeoff power is 135hp and max continuous power is 127bhp, which can be maintained to 15,000ft. Service ceiling is 23,000ft.
