The de Havilland Moth Club’s 2023 Vintage Air Tour is set for this summer with planned mid-week dates of Wednesday, 21 June and Thursday, 22 June.
The Tour started in 2003 to commemorate the Centenary of Flight and has been run most years since. The objective is to encourage vintage light aeroplanes to spread their wings and fly a bit further.
According to organisers Ron Gammons, the 2023 Tour has so far 23 registered aircraft, mainly Tiger Moths, but with two Gipsy Moths, three Leopard Moths and four Hornet Moths, a Stampe, Travel Air and Chipmunk also joining in.
The Tour is centred at Enstone North side grass, by kind permission of Tom Gilbert.
On Wednesday 21 June the Tour travels from Enstone to visit Popham for morning coffee, arrival around 10.15, then to Shobdon for a lunch stop at approximately 12 noon, departing Shobdon to Husbands Bosworth from 2pm and returning to Enstone late afternoon.
On the Thursday the cavalcade departs from Enstone to Fenland for the coffee stop and then to Hinderclay Meadows in Suffolk for lunch. Finally, to Old Warden in Bedfordshire for afternoon tea, where public access is freely available. All with similar timings to the Wednesday.
Times, routes, and participants are subject to weather and to change without prior notice. It is hoped that all the participants will visit all, or most, of the points of the Tour but for obvious reasons there can be no guarantees!
The organising team of Ron and Valery Gammons, Mark and Siobhan Miller, said they are grateful to the airfields that the Tour is visiting for their wholehearted support – which is sure to generate some local interest.
