If you have an FAA Airman Certificate, either based on another ICAO PPL, or the unrestricted verion you’ll be used to the somehwat flimsy, but free piece of paper that they issue.
Well from the beginning of August the FAA are moving to a new, ‘security enhanced’ plastic version.
The FAA tell us that…
The new credit card-sized certificates
are made from high-quality composite
PVC media card stock and incorporate
new security features, such as a
hologram of the FAA seal. They will
replace the existing paper airman
certificates which can be easily
damaged.
The plan isn’t to replace the 600,000+ certificates out there, but to issue the new version as owners add new ratings or have some other reason to change certificates such as a change of address. The new plastic versions will remain free of charge.
