The new two-seater is intended for training and has a similar but stronger structure as the DAR. The DAR 23 is be available both ready to fly and as a kit. The aircraft is powered by a 50hp Hirth F-23L aircooled engine. MTOW is only 360kg. The speed range is from 55km/h (take-off) to 130km/h (maximum speed). The DAR 23 is also available with a folding wings option and prices start at 28,800 euro.
“Both new models have an open cockpit, giving you a better view of the outside world,” said Ilieff. “Even clean canopies cut down the amount you can see and they don’t stay clean long. By the end of a summer flight they will have a coating of crushed insects and a microscopic layer of oil mixed with dust. This can be a real hindrance when landing into a setting sun.
“Another advantage is when landing in rain, open cockpits produce fewer blind spots because there’s no structure in the way. Furthermore, you can lean out the side for a better view while taxiing or coming in to land.”
DAR aircraft are imported into the UK by ConAir Sports.
