The Light Aircraft Company Ltd, manufacturer of the Sherwood family of light aircraft, has started production of the Sherwood KUB, its SSDR light aircraft.
Since TLAC’s acquisition of the old Reality Kid design, the team has been rationalising the design, remanufacturing jigs and fixtures and preparing the 4130 steel tubes which it is manufactured from.
Initial production attempts working from the Reality factory tooling proved difficult and inaccurate, and a programme of jig and fixture remanufacture was undertaken. Production has now started, with the first factory-built aircraft nearing completion and another airframe finish welded and awaiting powder coating.
The Sherwood KUB is a conventionally configured three-axis, high-wing tailwheel aircraft with a fully enclosed cockpit that can be powered by engines up to 45 hp. The KUB incorporates features such as three stage flaps, a luggage bay, windows that can be opened in flight and a two minute wing fold without the need for any controls to be disconnected and five minutes to load onto its trailer, without the need for tools.
