RunwayHD, the navigation and moving map app from Airbox, is to be discontinued from the end of October 2024.
Airbox is to concentrate on developing its mapping technology and software for professional uses such as law enforcement, military, special forces, search & rescue, fire and medical emergency services globally.
One such customer is London’s Air Ambulance Service which fitted Airbox’s ACANS to its MD902 helicopters. ACANS offered enhanced situational awareness and navigational accuracy, whilst reducing crew workload and was cheaper than a bespoke aircraft upgrade.
Airbox said, “For the past 14 years, Airbox has had the opportunity and privilege of collaborating closely with and serving aviators of all kinds, including private aviators.
“Our primary goal has always been to ensure that we deliver reliable and high-quality products to all of our customers and users. Unfortunately, we no longer feel that we’re able to meet this standard with RunwayHD.
“We will be gradually discontinuing our B2C products over the coming months. This will include RunwayHD and Airbox Plates. We understand that this transition may be challenging for some of our customers, and we are committed to ensuring a smooth process. Detailed guidance and support will be provided in the coming days to help our valued customers navigate this change.”
The retirement date of RunwayHD is 31 October 2024 and Airbox Plates will be withdrawn on 3 October 2024. After these dates, the services will no longer be accessible, and all associated features and functionalities will cease to operate.
