22 May 2020
FLYER’s now weekly Facebook Livestream broadcast at 19:30 last night (Thursday 21 May) and this time we had a special guest: Dan Subhani, director and manager of Sandown Airport on the Isle of Wight.
Dan’s had one of the busiest weeks of his life since reopening the airfield last weekend following the Coronavirus lockdown. He’s been busy getting the airfield ready with an outside catering area serving great food, benches 5 metres apart and plenty of other clever social distancing measures.
Over last winter he laid a new Astro turf runway to get over waterlogging issues and installed a system of booking in, paying landing fees and ordering food while en route to the airfield. Imagine that – land, park, collect food and drink waiting for you, and eat! It’s the way to run an airfield for recreational flyers, that’s clear.
Next Ian introduced our latest idea, the #GetBritainFlyingAgain campaign. More about that here.
Then the boss publicly committed us to launching The FLYER Club member’s area on the website, which has been in development for the last couple of weeks creating calluses on our dancing digits. (Bear with me, it’s been a long week). More here.
Ed Hicks then talked us through the potential cover story for the next issue, Summer, which will have a replica of the famous Mew Gull featured.
Finally we whizzed through the week’s news headlines which you can find here.
Watch a recording of the Livestream video below and join us on Thursday, 28 May at 19:30 (7.30pm) on FLYER’s Facebook page.
