A formal 12 week consultation on a new byelaw for Loch Lomond under the National Parks (Scotland) Act 2000 to allow regulation of seaplane landings and take-offs on Loch Lomond ends in early April.
The Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park announced last year that they wanted to ‘presume against’ seaplane operations citing ‘a substantial increase in the use of Loch Lomond by seaplanes’
Current seaplane users of Loch Lomond point out that there are no more than 10 airworthy seaplanes in the whole of the UK.
By comparison, there were 5403 registered motorboats, jet skis and watercraft registered and operated on Loch Lomond in 2003.
