Sales and support for the Schweizer S-269/300 light helicopter are set for an overdue boost following the sale of the marque by Sikorsky.
The new owner is Texas-based company Rotorcraft Services Group (RSG) who will set up a new venture to be called Schweizer RSG. The type certificate and parts store are all part of the deal.
Sikorsky acquired Schweizer in 2004 but has done very little with the product since, apart from rebranding the S-269 as the Sikorsky S-300.
An existing agreement with China’s AVIC to manufacture the S-300 under licence in China will remain. The current US production line in Pennsylvania will also continue.
Schweizer RSG will be run by David Horton, who was president and general manager of Schweizer Aircraft from 2008 to 2010. He said, “We are going to work to remain competitive and make sure we have a very strong supply chain so we can deliver a good quality product at a market-accepted price.”
There are an estimated 2,900 S-269/300 helicopters around the world, with 22 on the UK register.
