Is this the ultimate kitplane? Stratos Aircraft unveiled its plan to sell its single-engine personal jet as a kit at this week’s EAA AirVenture Oshkosh.
The jet kit, known as the 716X, is based on the six-seat Stratos 714 personal jet that’s already flying. A top speed of over 400 knots is predicted, 41,000ft ceiling and a 1,500nm range.
Stratos ultimately wants to manufacture and sell a certified version of its personal jet and sees the kitplane as a route to achieving that, citing Epic Aircraft’s similar plan in taking its kit LT turboprop through to the certified E1000.
An owner-assist build programme would be available and apparently one aircraft is already under construction by an unnamed customer. Build time is estimated as 2,500 hours. No price has been revealed as yet.
