Superior to develop Gemini diesel engine

Superior Aviation has announced it will be bringing the Gemini, a diesel engine, to market in early 2016.
Developed in the UK by Powerplant Developments, and first seen at AERO Friedrichshafen in 2009, the Gemini, named for its twin-crankshaft, two-pistons per cylinder layout, is a two-stroke, three-cylinder, 100 horsepower engine intended to meet the needs of LSA designers, manufacturers and owners.
Powerplant Developments is now defunct, but more than five years after its launch, the rights to the project have been acquired by Superior.
The company has stated it plans to bring the liquid-cooled 100-horsepower engine to market in early 2016. While initial plans are for the 100-series engines to find their way into light sport aircraft, the product line will be expanded all the way up to 550 hp for Part 23 aeroplanes in coming years, according to Tim Archer, Superior Group CEO.
Price, according to Superior, is aimed to be around $25,000.
