A new aircraft meeting the UK’s single-seat deregulated (SSDR) rules will make its debut at FLYER Live this weekend. The Tech Pro Merlin being shown by Sprite Aviation, well known for its range of microlight aircraft, is an all-metal, high-wing design from the Czech Republic.
“The Merlin is now in production following extensive structural and flight testing,” said Graham Smith, boss of Sprite Aviation. “It will be available for delivery early next year as a kit or ready to fly. As a guide price the kits will be around £10,000 +VAT.
“Exact specification is still to be confirmed but we expect it to include all items up to the firewall excluding avionics and electrics. The airframe parts are all matched hole technology (very limited fitting time) and all come epoxy primed ready for assembly,” he continued.
“The factory is also building a limited number of ready to fly aircraft. We have been offered three for delivery in the Spring of next year with a guide price of £20,000 + VAT for the analogue version. This includes custom paint to your own design.”
Key points of the Tech Pro Merlin, according to Sprite:
• Max cruising speed 120mph
• Low landing speed
• Dual wing tanks
• Hydraulic brakes
• 4-stage Fowler flaps
• Electric elevator trim
• Large diameter metal wheels with disc brakes
• Large luggage area with secure recessed box (limited to 10kg)
• Cabin heat and demisting as standard
• 4-point harness
• Capable of carrying full avionics kit
• UK version has wing tie downs and spats as standard
• Very high power to weight ratio – off the ground in a few metres
• Simple easy handling.
